The essentials first
With wheelchair transport, the patient stays seated in their own wheelchair. Our vehicles have a ramp or lift and an approved restraint system that secures the wheelchair and the person separately during the journey. If you do not have your own wheelchair, we provide one.
Typical uses
- Doctor and dentist appointments
- Dialysis transport
- Therapy and rehabilitation appointments
- Journeys to public offices, visits and private appointments
- Admissions to and discharges from hospitals, clinics or care homes
Safety starts before you get in
The safety of our patients is our top priority in wheelchair transport. We only use vehicles that meet the applicable safety standards and legal requirements. The wheelchair and the person are secured separately with an approved restraint system – the wheelchair anchored to the vehicle floor, the patient additionally with a seat belt.
Our vehicles are air-conditioned. Our staff accompany patients with calm and empathy – from the door of the flat or room to the destination, not just from kerb to kerb.
In your own wheelchair or in ours
You can be transported in your own wheelchair – for most patients this is the most comfortable option, because the familiar seating position is retained. As a rule, we can also carry electric wheelchairs and active wheelchairs; please tell us the model and weight when you book.
If you do not have a wheelchair of your own, or it is not to come along, we provide a Mobimed wheelchair. Simply note this in the booking form.
What wheelchair transport does not include
Wheelchair transport does not include a medical escort. If monitoring is needed during the journey, stretcher transport with a second transport assistant is the right choice.
A companion from your personal circle, on the other hand, can always travel along free of charge.

Frequently asked questions: Wheelchair transport
What is wheelchair transport?
With wheelchair transport, you travel in your own wheelchair: it is pushed into the vehicle via a ramp or lift and secured with an approved restraint system – you do not have to be transferred. Trained staff collect you at your front door and accompany you all the way to your destination.
Can I be transported in my own wheelchair?
Yes. Our vehicles are equipped with a ramp or lift and approved restraint systems. Your wheelchair is anchored to the vehicle floor, and you are additionally secured with a belt.
Can you also carry electric wheelchairs?
As a rule, yes. Because electric wheelchairs are considerably heavier, we need the model and weight in advance so that we can schedule the right vehicle.
How much does a companion cost?
Nothing. Companions travel free of charge with Mobimed.
Will you collect me from my flat?
Yes. We accompany you from the door of your flat or room to your destination and also help you get in and out of the vehicle.

The first IVR-recognised patient transport service in north-western Switzerland
Recognition by the Swiss Interassociation for Rescue Services (IVR/IAS) is not a self-assessment but the result of an external audit of vehicles, equipment, training and procedures. Mobimed was the first patient transport provider in north-western Switzerland to receive it — and still holds it today.
